A 23-year-old Broward County, Florida, man facing a pair of felony charges opted -- against the judge's advice -- to represent himself in court recently, and it took just two hours for the jury to convict him. WPLG-TV reports that when asked if he wanted to appoint an attorney to help represent himself against carjacking and gun possession charges, Curt James reportedly told the judge, "I ain't going to prison. You trippin'. I ain't going to trial."

James and two accomplices were accused of robbing and carjacking a man in Florida in October of 2010, but the carjacking ended badly when they couldn't figure out how to get the victim's Mercedes in gear.

Not surprisingly, James had trouble with the legal lingo, then called himself to the stand to share why he confessed to the crimes. "I was trying to make myself look bigger than I really was."

The jury convicted him on both felony counts -- with possible life sentences in the offing. 

James' verdict will be appealed, and he'll likely win the appeal, WPLG reports -- not because of his skill as an attorney, but because a jury foreman crossed out "with a firearm" under a jury ruling statement, which could have affected the outcome.
